It’s only Tuesday, and we’ve already had a busy IoT World! This morning, we announced the Samsung ARTIK 053, the newest member of the ARTIK 0 family of IoT modules. Additionally, today Samsung and VMware announced that VMWare has joined the Samsung ARTIK Partner Program. More on this below. If you’re at VMWorld, be sure to stop by our booth to learn more and see some interesting demos!
Samsung ARTIK 053 IoT Module
Regular readers will know that we’ve built the Samsung ARTIK family of IoT modules with an eye toward helping companies develop IoT products more quickly while maintaining tight security. Our ARTIK 0 family is geared toward the “things” in IoT – sensors, actuators, and other end nodes such as door locks and thermostats. Today, we announced a new member of that family – the Samsung ARTIK(r) 053.
The ARTIK 053 brings Wi-Fi® to the ARTIK 0 family, and adds onboard, hardware-based security. If features a 32-bit ARM® Cortex® R4 processor running at 320MHz, and has plenty of GPIO, SPI, and I2C ports. We’ve done the regulatory certification of this module, making your final certification process easier.
ARTIK 053 runs Tizen RT, a compact, open source platform that includes a real-time operating system, which was unveiled yesterday at the Tizen Developer Conference. It has built-in support for Lightweight Machine-to-machine (LWM2M) protocol, and you can develop for it (and the ARTIK 053) using open source tools like the new ARTIK IDE, GCC, and OpenOCD.
Check out the ARTIK 053 product page here.
Speaking of the ARTIK IDE, we now have available an IDE pre-configured for ARTIK development. It works for the ARTIK 053, 520, 530, and 710 modules. You can download the ARTIK IDE here (login required). You can also check out the ARTIK IDE Getting Started guide on the ARTIK Developer website here.
Developer Reference Mobile App
If you use the ARTIK 053 with Samsung ARTIK Cloud, we have another announcement for you – easy onboarding of modules to ARTIK Cloud with our new Developer Reference Mobile App. We built this app to make it easier for you to add development devices to ARTIK Cloud, but also to use as a reference for making an onboarding app for your customers. You’ll find an application note on the ARTIK website about this soon. You’ll find more information on the app here.
New Partner Announcements
Samsung and VMware today announced that VMware has joined the Samsung ARTIK Partner Program. The companies will work together to accelerate the development, deployment, and management of IoT solutions for enterprises. Integration between the Little IoT Agent (Liota), a vendor-neutral open source software development kit (SDK) developed by VMware, and the Samsung ARTIK 530 module is being demonstrated in the Samsung booth at IoT World 2017. Also being demonstrated is the newly announced VMware Pulse IoT Center, a unified control panel that provides accurate and real-time visibility into the health of devices and can act on anomalies. Samsung’s growing list of global technology and distribution partners will enable accelerated development and help deliver compelling new IoT solutions to their customers.
Finally, we’re happy to announce that to reach a wider audience and help speed up IoT development and time to market, Samsung reached a global distribution agreement with Mouser Electronics to distribute the SAMSUNG ARTIK™ family of modules, development kits and accessories. You can find Samsung ARTIK products on their site here.
We hope to see you at IoT World this week!
